Abstract
To evaluate the role of telomerase activity in the genesis and development of ovarian malignant tumors and its clinical significance The telomerase activity in 23 malignant tumor and their neighbor tissues,10 borderline or low malignant potential (LMP) tissues, 12 normal ovarian and 28 benign ovarian tumor tissues were detected by PCR ELISA based on TRAP (teromeric repeated sequences amplification protocol) The telomerase positive rate was 91 3%(21/23) in malignant tumor tissues, 17 3%(4/23) in neighbor tissues of malignant tumor, 20%(2/10) in LMP tissues, 7 1%(2/28) in benign tissues And it was negative in all of normal ovarian The level of telomease activity was significantly higher in LMP tissues than in benign ovarian tumor and normal ovarian(P0 05) It was not significantly different between benign ovarian tumor and normal ovarian tissues (P0 05) And it was not significantly different among different pathologic patterns either The telomerase activity had positive correlation with the clinical stage and differentiation of tumors [Conclusion] The expression of telomerase may play a major role in ovarian malignant tumors The detection of telomerase activity is useful for diagnosis and differential diagnosis of ovarian tumors, and predicting prognosis of patients with malignant ovarian tumors
