Telomerase activity in ovarian tumors tissues and its clinical significance

Abstract

Objective:[WT5BZ]To evaluate the role of telomerase activity in the genesis and development of ovarian tumors and its clinical significance.[WT5HZ]Methods:[WT5BZ]Telomerase activity in ovarian tumor tissues was determined using PCR-TRAP.These specimens were abtained from 30 patients with ovarian tumors,including 8 benign,7 borderline or low malignant(LMP),and 15 malignant tumors.[WT5HZ]Results:[WT5BZ]Telomerase activity was detected in 4 of 7 LMP tumors(57%)and in 14 of 15 malignant tumors(93.3%)but not in 8 benign tumors.There were no significant correlation among the general positive rate of telomerase activity histological substypes,histological grades or tumor stages.[WT5HZ]Conclusion:[WT5BZ]The detection of telomerase activity is not only useful in dianosis and differential diagnosis of ovarian tumors,but also helpful in predicting prognosis of patient with malignant ovarian tumors. [WT5HZ]
