Abstract

Objective To investigate proliferation inhibition and apoptosis induction of allicin on glioma U251 cells in vivo. Methods U251 glioma cells cultured in vitro were incubated with different doses of allicin. The cell survival rates in hours 12,24 and 48 h were assayed with the CCK-8 method and the cell apoptosis and cycles with the FCM methods. Results The cell growth was greatly inhibited by allicin in a concentration- and time-dependent manner(P0.001).FCM results showed that cells were predominately blocked in the G0/G1 phases. The apoptosis rate was significantly higher in the allicin group than the control group in a concentration manner(P0.001).Conclusions Allicin can inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of U251 cells.
