Abstract

Objective:To study the inhibitory effects of allicin and its induction of apoptosis on human leukemia cells HL-60.Methods:MTT was used to study the inhibitory effects of allicin on HL-60 cells growth and the typical morphology characters of apoptosis induced by allicin was observed with light microscope, and the apoptosis rate was analysed by flow cytometry(FCM).Results:MTT showed that HL-60 cells were suppressed with dose dependent relationship after exposed to allicin of 20,40,60 mg/L.Allicin induced apoptosis of HL-60 cells and apoptotic cells were supposed to be initiated in some phases of cell cycle by flow cytometry. Conclusions:Allicin can inhibit the growth rates of human leukemia cells HL-60 and induce its apoptosis.
