Abstract

It is possible to reevaluate Gao E's sequel of The Red Chamber Dream, along with the construction of Wang Guowei's Commentary on the Red Chamber Dream and based on Bao Yu's temperament and Dai Yu's fate. Gao E's arrangement on Bao Yu's end and his creation idea of pursuing the consolidation of form and essence are in line with Gao E's origin in tenlion. But the process of Dai Yu's death was so exaggerated that it decreased the artistic conception of the tragedy while it turned the original work form a complete tragedy to a tragedy about the contrast of the good and the evil. Therefore, there are disadvantages and advantages simultaneously in Gao E's sequel.
