Clinical efficacy of "Bushen Jianpi Decoction" in treating postoperative primary liver cancer and its effects on serum thyroid hormones

Objective To observe the clinical effects of Bushen Jianpi Decoction in the treatment of postoperative primary liver cancer of kidney-yin and spleen-qi deficiency and its effects on serum thyroid hormones.Methods Forty-five subjects were randomized into two groups: control group in which 22 cases were treated by routine modality and treatment group in which 23 cases were treated by Bushen Jianpi Decoction plus routine modality,both for three courses with 28 days in a course.The clinical efficacy,serum thyroid hormone level and KPS were evaluated before and after treatment.Results After treatment,the thyroid hormone(T3 and T4) levels were increased in both groups(P0.05),with more significant increase in the treatment group than in the control group(P0.05).The total effective rate in KPS was 43.47% in the treatment group and 27.27% in the control group,with a striking difference between the two groups(P0.05).The median survival time was 10 months in treatment group and 9 months in control group;and there was a difference in the 12-month survival time between treatment and control groups(P0.05).Conclusion Bushen Jianpi Decoction can increase serum thyroid hormone level,improve symptoms and life quality,and prolong survival time in patients with postoperative liver cancer.
