Abstract

ZHANG Jian,the Number One Scholar of the late Qing Dynasty,had worked hard establishing industries,running schools and promoting commonweal in his hometown Nantong City.As an erudite scholar,ZHANG Jian inherited the best part of Chinese traditional thoughts of education and connected education with the society and modern industry.ZHANG Jian’s educational valuation,combining modern ideas of education with Chinese traditions,proved to be very practical and is inspirational to us when we discuss the problems of the present Chinese education.
