Abstract

Ulysses is well known as a classical work of stream-of-consciousness. No doubt the success of the novel is directly related to the effective narrative techniques, such as omniscient narration, the first person internal narration and the third person internal focus. From narrative perspective and narrative discourse, the two overlapping points of both narratology and stylistics, the paper discusses their unique functions of adjusting the narrative distance, developing the plot, foregrounding the subject matter and creating the characters.
