Abstract

Objective To detect the expression levels of osteopontin(OPN) and CD44v6 in serum of gastric cancer patients and to investigate their clinical value in diagnosing and monitoring gastric cancer. Methods The levels of OPN and CD44v6 in 60 serum samples of gastric cancer patients,42 serum samples of gastric ulcer patients and 33 serum samples of healthy persons were measured by enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay. Results The expression levels of OPN and CD44v6 in serum of gastric cancer patients were significantly higher than those of gastric ulcer patients and healthy examination persons(P0.01);The expression levels of OPN and CD44v6 in serum of gastric cancer patients were associated with PTNM stage, the size of the tumor, the metastasis of lymph node and distant metastasis(P0.05);The expression levels of OPN and CD44v6 in serum of gastric cancer patients were positively correlated with each other(r=0.8645,P0.01);The sensitivity of combined detection of the two markers was improved to 92.5%.Conclusion The assay of OPN and CD44v6 in serum of gastric cancer patients is helpful in diagnosing and predicting the risk for metastasis and prognosis in gastric cancer. The combined detection of the two markers can improve the detection rate and can be taken as a screening method for gastric cancer.
