Abstract

Objective To study the concentration of serum phosphate in patients with sepsis, and the relationship between the serum phosphate concentration and the prognosis of patients with sepsis. Methods 82 patients with sepsis in ICU were enrolled.Acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ) score and the concentration of serum phosphate were determined in the patients. All cases were divided into(1) the normal phosphate concentration and the hypophosphatemia group. Results The concentration of serum phosphate was lower in sepsis group than that in control group(t=3.296,P0.01),the mortality of the hypophosphatemia group was higher than that of normal phosphate group(χ2=4.457,P0.05).The incidence rate of hypophosphatemia in death group was higher than that in survied group(χ2=8.483,P0.01).The concentration of serum phosphate was negative correlation with the APACHE Ⅱ score(r=-0.239,P0.01).Conclusion The concentration of serum phosphate is correlated to the prognosis of patients with sepsis;and could be used as an index in judging the outcome of patients with sepsis.
