Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between grading of glioma and BAI1 mRNA. Methods Total RNA were extracted from 6 control brain tissue samples and 12 grade Ⅱ, 12 grade Ⅲ and 14 grade Ⅳ glioma samples respectively. The expression level of BAI1 mRNA was measured by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Results BAI1 mRNA was found in all the normal cerebral tissues and 26 of 38 gliomas (68.4%). The expression level of BAI1 mRNA was significantly higher in normal cerebral tissues than in gliomas (P 0.05), but there was no statistical difference between the glioma samples. Conclusion The transcriptional expression of gene BAI1 is significantly decreased in gliomas, and even lost in some of them. The expression level of gene BAI1 is not related to the grading of glioma.
