Abstract
Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide and enalapril in the treatment of essential hypertension. Methods Sixty six cases with essential hypertension were divided randomly into two groups:Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide and enalapril. Treatment lasted for 24 weeks. Parameters of blood pressure were measured before and after treatment. Results Blood pressure were significantly reduced in both groups (P0.05). There was no significant difference in responder rates between Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide treated patients (90.9 %) and patients taking enalapril (81.8 %). The trough to peak ratios of systolic and diastolic blood pressures of Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide were greater than that of enalapril. Conclusion Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide once daily is effective, safe and well tolerated in hypertensive patients.
