Abstract
Objective: To investigate the positive rate of HIV antibody among hospitalized heroin addicts and the demographic characteristics. Methods: Diagnostic kid for antibody HIV Colloidal-Gold was used for the preliminary sifts, then the positive samples were reconfirmed by ELISA. Results: Among the 3000 heroin addicts there were 44 (1.47%) HIV antibody positive cases, including 41 males and 3 females, all of whom had a history of intravenous injecting drugs. In the 44 HIV positive cases, 25 cases (56.82%) were the minority; 37 cases (84.09%) had no job; 40 cases (90.91%) were lowly educated; 26 cases (59.09%) aged 20-29. Conclusion: Heroin abusers, especially intravenous injecting heroin abusers are high risk group of HIV infection. The positive rate was higher in males, the minority, unemployed, lowly educated and aged 20-29 population.
