ANALYSIS OF HIV INFECTION AMONG DRUG ABUSERS

Abstract

Objective: To understand the status of HIV positive cases. Methods: Golden-Labled Immunochromatographic Assay was used to test the heroin abusers admitted to Ruihua Drug and Rehabilitation Center during Aug. 1999 to Oct. 2001,and the HIV positive cases were analyzed. Results: Totally 2123 heroin abusers were tested. 21 cases were HIV positive. The positive rate was 0.98% (21/2123). 19 (18 males and 1 female) cases were intravenous injection drug users (IDUS).8 HIV positive cases came from the same region. Conclusion: Drug abusers are high risk group of HIV infection. Intravenous injection drug use is the main route of HIV transmission. Drug abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention should be widely carried out, so as to control the spread of HIV transmission.
