Complications and the preventions of peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) in patients with advanced stage cancer

Abstract

Objective To find out the complications and their preventive methods of peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) in patients with cancer.Methods We placed PICC in 105 patients with cancer who were hospitalized between August 2004 and July 2005.The PICC related complications were observed and analyzed.Results Phlebitis in four cases among 105 patients was detected(3.81%).One catheter was broken during management(0.95%).Conclusions Using PICC in patients with cancer is essential and very safe.The complications seldom happen and can be prevented.
