Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene -572C/G polymorphisms and cerebral infarction in Tangshan Han population.Methods 118 old patients with cerebral infarction (CI) and 154 normal old people (control) were recruited.All participants were genotyped for the IL-6 gene at the -572C/G locus using PCR-based restriction fragment length polymorphism method.Results Genotype frequencies of IL-6 gene -572 CC,CG and GG were 50.85%,41.53% and 7.63% in patients with cerebral infarction and 65.58%,31.82% and 2.60% in control subjects.The C allele frequency was 71.61% in patients with CI and 81.49% in control subjects.The G allele frequency was 28.39% in patients with CI and 18.51% in control subjects.The frequencies of interleukin-6 gene -572 C/G genotypes and alleles in patients differed significantly from those in controls (P 0.05).The odds ratio (OR) for CI associated with CG, GG genotypes was estimated as 1.683(95% CI,1.012-2.800,P 0.05) and 3.788(95% CI: 1.118-12.833,P 0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that IL-6 gene -572C/G polymorphism was an independent risk factor for cerebral infarction.Conclusion There is IL-6 gene -572 C/G polymorphism in the test population.IL-6 gene -572C/G polymorphism may be a possible genetic susceptibility factor for cerebral infarction and -572G allele is associated with susceptibility to cerebral infarction in Tangshan Han population.
