Small Dose of Sustained Release Tablet Tolterodine in the Treatment of Cystospasm after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of small dose of tolterodine retard tablets in the prevention and treatment of bladder spasm after transurethral prostatectomy(TURP). Methods 82 cases of TURP were randomly assigned into a treatment group(n= 41),given 4 mg tolterodine retard tablets once 3h before TURP and 2mg once every day 24h after TURP till the day of indwelling catheter,and a control group(n= 41),given 0.1 Indometacin Suppositories in anus when bladder spasm attack. Then we observed the frequency of bladder spasm and duration of bladder spasm,side effects within the 1-3 days and compared them between the two groups. Results By comparing the mean frequency and duration of bladder spasm between the two groups,statistics show P 0.05 in 1-3days,and the side effects in the treatment group:dry mouth in 6cases,constipation in 4 case and relieved after symptomatic treatment. There is no symptomatic treatment in control group. All the cases of two groups are voiding well after indwelling catheter. Conclusion Small dose of tolterodine retard tablets is security and effective for the prevention and treatment of bladde rspasm after TURP.
