Abstract

A wax emulsion was prepared with 58# paraffin wax as basic material and blend of nonionic and anionic surfactant as emulsifier.Various process conditions, such as HLB value and dosage of the emulsifier as well as emulsifying method, temperature, time and stirring speed on the particle size of the wax emulsion were examined.Experimental results showed that the suitable HLB value is about 9.3.Adopting emulsifier-in-oil method with stirring speed of 1 000 r/min,and under the conditions as dosage of the emulsifier 7%(w),emulsifying temperature at 85 ℃~90 ℃,time 40 min,an wax emulsion with solid content of 50%,average particle size of 1.3 μm,and refractive index of 1.42 can be obtained. The appearance of the wax emulsion is a uniform fine and milky white liquid.
