Abstract

Objective To evaluate the alteration of inflammatory cytokine during sere acute pancreatitis(SAP) and the therapeutic effects of verapamil in rats. Methods A total of 90 SD male rats were randomly divided into Group A(sham-operative group),Group B(SAP group) and Group C(SAP treated with verapamil). The model of rat SAP induced by amend Aho's converse pancreas bile duct puncture injection. All rats were killed at 6 hours after operation.Blood samples were taken for measurement of IL-1,IL-6 and TNF-.Results In SAP group the levels of IL-1,IL-6 and TNF-were significantly increased compared with those of sham-operative group(0.01).In SAP with verapamil therapy group, the levels of IL-1,IL-6 and TNF-in serumwere significantly lower than those of SAP group(0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion Inflmanatory cytokines,IL-1,IL-6 and TNF-are increased remarkably in SAP.Verapamil can reduce the level of serum IL-1,IL-6 and TNF-and the dam-age to pancreatic tissue.
