Efficacy of Esomeprazole in Combination with Levofloxacin and Amoxicillin in Treatment of Helicobacter pylori-associated Duodenal Ulcer

Objective To investigate clinical efficacy of esomeprazole in combination with levofloxacin and amoxicillin in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori(Hp)-associate duodenal ulcer(DU).Methods Sixty-two patients with Hp-associated DU were randomly classified into two groups.Patients in treatment group(n=31) received esomeprazole in combination with levofloxacin and amoxicillin,whereas patients in control group(n=31) had only esomeprazole.After 8 weeks of treatment,clinical effects,Hp clearance rates,ulcer healing and antrial mucosal inflammation were analyzed in both groups.Results After 8 weeks of treatment,treatment group significantly improved clinical symptoms including epigastric pain,heartburn,abdominal discomfort and eructation,markedly enhanced Hp clearance rates(96.8% vs 64.5%,P0.05) and ulcer healing(100% vs 80.6%,P0.05),as well as significantly improved antrial mucosal inflammation compared with that of control group(P0.05).Conclusion Esomeprazole in combination with levofloxacin and amoxicillin is effectively to treat Hp-associated DU and promote ulcer healing.
