Expression of matrix metalloproteinase 3 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 3 in carcinomas of cervix

Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between the invasion and metastasis of tumor and the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP-3) and tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase(TIMP-3).Methods The expression of MMP-3 and TIMP-3 was detected in 21 cases with cervical cancer by light microscopy and immunohistochemical method.Results Studies revealed that the expression of MMP-3 in later cancer of cervix was higher than earlier cancer significantly,but the expression of TIMP-3 was contrary to MMP-3.The ratio of MMP-3/TIMP-3 in later cancer of cervix was higher than earlier cancer.Conclusion The expression levels of MMP-3,TIMP-3 as well as the ratio of MMP-3/TIMP-3 are correlated with metastasis and prognosis of cervical cancer,which is a marker that judges invasion,metastasis and prognosis of the cervical cancer.
