Relationships among MMP-2 and TIMP-2 expression,invasiveness and metastasis in cervical carcinoma

Objective To study the expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 in cervical carcinoma and their effects on the tumor invasiveness and metastasis.Methods The expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 in 53cases of cervical carcinomas and 14 cases of normal cervical tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry SP method.Significant differences were analyzed by X2 test.Results The positive rates of both MMP-2 and TIMP-2 were significantly higher in cervical carcinoma than in normal cervices(P 0.01).The positive rates of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 were 71.70%and 47.17% respectively.The expression of MMP-2 was no relevant to lymph node metastasis(P 0.05).The expression of TIMP-2 decreased significantly with node metastasis(P 0.01),There was a correlation between the expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2(P 0.05).Conclusion The expression of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 in cervical carcinoma was significantly associated with the invasion and metastasis of cervical carcinoma.The MMP-2 and TIMP-2 may act as an index to indicate the potential of the invasion and metastasis and the prognosis of cervical carcinoma.
