Study on job stressor and mental health among head nurses

Objective To determine head nurses' job stressor,mental health and the relationship between them,in order to improve the level of nursing management and the quality of nursing care.Methods Eighty head nurses were tested using the Job Stressor Inventory(JSI) and Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90).Results Except fear,the scores of each factor of SCL-90 were higher than the norm(P0.05),which showed lower level of mental health among head nurses.The score of SCL-90 was positively correlated with each factor of job stressor.The main job stressors came from the factors of workload and time distribution,and working environment and resources.The job stressors were negatively correlated with age and working years.Conclusion The result showed that head nurses suffered from multiple job stressors and factors which influenced mental health.It is suggested to pay close attention to them,in order to improve the quality of clinical nursing management and meet the needs of society and patients.
