Abstract

Objective To determine the current status and relations of job stressors, mental health and coping styles among head nur- ses. Methods Data were collected on 92 head nurses from 4 secondary level general hospitals in Beijing using questionnaire. Results The main stressors came from the factor of workload and time pressure.Worrying about errors was the most frequently con- cerned job stressor. The head nurses' mental health showed relatively poor. The job stressors were positively correlated with most items in SCL-90.The score of positive coping style showed higher than the norm, while the regative coping style was lower than the norm. Moreover, the negative coping style was positively correlated with each item in SCL-90,while there was no correlation between positive coping style and SCL-90.Conclusion The nursing managers should pay close attention to the job stressors among head nurses and take effective measures to relieve their job stress and improve their mental health.
