Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of CT in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of adult adrenal tumors. Methods The CT findings, pathological characteristics and clinical data of 32 cases(10 men,22 women)surgically and pathologically diagnosed as adult adrenal tumors were analyzed retrospectively. Results The adult adrenal tumor was found in unilateral adrenal gland in 30 cases, and in bilateral adrenal glands in 2.The adult adrenal tumor was detected in the left adrenal gland in 9 cases and in the right one in 21.Sixteen cases showed tumor diameter≤3 cm,while 18 cases was3 cm.Of 12 cases of cortical adenomas,11 cases occurred in unilateral adrenal gland and 1 case in bilateral adrenal glands.Conn syndrome was detected in 8 cases, and Cushing syndrome in 4 cases. One case of adrenal cortical adenocarcinoma was found in the right adrenal gland.Ten cases of pheochromocytoma all occurred in unilateral adrenal gland. There was also 3 cases of myelolipoma,4 cases of metastasis(1 case in the bilateral and 3 in the unilateral)and 2 cases of adrenal cyst. Conclusion Different types of adrenal tumors have separate CT features.CT scan combined with clinical findings and correlated laboratory examination should be a key point for diagnosis and differential diagnosis of adult adrenal tumors.
