The effects of lidocaine hydrochloride gel on the catheterization with bladder irrigation chemotherapy

Objective To observe effects of lidocaine hydrochloride gel on catheterization in old patients with bladder irrigation chemotherapy.Methods 50 old patients with bladder cancer who needed to place urinary catheter for irrigation of bladder were randomly divided into two groups.The patients in experimental group were infused 10 ml lidocaine hydrochloride gel into urethra for mucosa surface anesthesia before insertting catheter,and then catheter was placed by conventional methods.The patients in control group were placed urinary catheter after using liquid lubrication oil.The score of Zung' s anxiety by self-rating scale(SAS)was used to subjective reaction before and after bladder irrigation.Results There was no significant difference of the score of anxiety reactions between before and after irrigation in the experimental group.However,an apparent anxiety reaction could be observed in the control group after irrigation.The one-time success rate of placing catheter in the experimental group reached 100% but 88% in the control group.The difference of the success rate between two groups was significant(P0.01).Conclusions Lidocaine hydrochloride gel could significantly reduce the anxiety reaction of catheterization in old patients and increase the one-time success rate of catheterization.
