Comparative study of schizophrenia treated with aripiprazole and risperidone

Objective:To study the effect and adverse reaction between aripiprazole and risperidone in the treatment of schizophrenia.Methods:Aripiprazole and risperidone were used respectively to treat schizophrenia in each 34 cases,for 8 weeks.The positive and negative symptoms scale(PANSS) was used to evaluate the clinical effect,while the treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS) was used to evaluate the adverse reaction.Results:There was significant difference in the total score of PANSS in both groups before and after treatment.The total effective rate was 82.3% in aripiprazole group,and identical to that in risperidone group of 82.3%(P0.05);while the incidenc rate of adverse reaction was 19.82% in aripiprazole group,lower than that in risperidone group of 25.32%,with significant difference between them(P0.05).Conclusion:The results suggested that aripirazole was as effective in the treatment of schizophrenia as risperidone.But aripiprazole was a safe and effective antipsychotic drug,with less adverse reaction.
