Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To discuss the efficacy and side effects of aripiprazole in the treatment of schizophrenia.METHODS: 30 schizophrenic patients were assigned to receive risperidone(control group) and another 30 to receive aripiprazole(trial group),with efficacy evaluated by the positive and negative symptoms scale(PANSS) and the adverse events evaluated by the treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS).RESULTS: There were significant differences between two groups in total PANSS scores at endpoint as compared with the baseline(P0.01).The responsive rate and excellent effective rate in aripiprazole group were 93% and 83%,respectively,and those in risperidone group were 90% and 80%,respectively,showing no significance in efficacy between two groups(P0.05).The incidence of side effects was higher in risperidone group than in aripiprazole group.CONCLUSION: Aripiprazole has been proved to be an effective and safe therapy for schizophrenia.
