Abstract
Objective To explore the significance of PTEN and Cyclin D1 expression in human gliomas. Methods Immunohistochemistry combined with computer assisted image analysis system was carried out to examine the expression of Cyclin D1 and PTEN in 80 specimens of gliomas. Results Expression of PTEN protein was in 63.8% in 80 gliomas, and the positive rate in gliomas with low grade was much higher than that with high grade. The expression of Cyclin D1 in WHO grades of gliomas was of significant difference. A significant correlation was observed between the expression of PTEN protein and Cyclin D1 in gliomas. Conclusion PTEN protein may play an important rule in regulation of cell cycle and cell proliferation in human gliomas.
