Abstract

OBJECTIVE To observe the effects of daidzein on SOD activity and MDA level in rat heart, brain and liver.METHODS 30 healthy rats were divided randomly into five groups: normal saline group, solution control group, high and low dose daidzein groups and Vit E control group. After 28 d of feeding according to the above grouping, the rats were all sacrificed for the measurement of activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) in the tissues of heart, liver and brain.RESULTS The results showed that the activities of SOD in the heart and liver of 50 and 100 mg·kg-1·d-1 daidzein group rats were significantly higher than that in the control groups(P0.05),and the concentrations of MDA in the heart, brain and liver of 50 and 100 mg·kg-1·d-1 daidzein group rats were significantly lower than that in the control groups(P0.05).CONCLUSION The study shows that daidzein can inhibit the lipid peroxide, enhance the SOD activity. Its antioxidant potency is even better than Vit E,which suggests that the daidzein may effectively lighten the injury of oxidative stress.
