Psychoanalysis of Jin Shengtan's Objection to Li Zhi and His Adoption of Ye Zhou

The comments by Jin Sheng-tan, a critic of the late Ming and early Qing, on Outlaws of the Marsh are contrary to Li Zhi's view in the aspects of creation, theme and the characters of the novel. But he adopts the opinions of Ye Zhou in the following aspects: the theory of self-entertaining and entertaining others, the image of Song Jiang, the characterization and the artistic fabrication. In order to be famous, Jin even hurls abuses at Li Zhi and at the same time he doesn't mark out his adoption of Ye Zhou's view because of his arrogant and proud nature. He is quite straightforward in his objection to Li Zhi and he is dishonest in adoption of Ye Zhou's view.
