Abstract
The 1-(4-methyl-6-hydroxyl-pyrimidine)-3-(phenyl-azo)-triazene(MHPPAT) as a chromogenic reagent was synthesized and its color reaction with nickel has been investigated. In the presence of the surface active agent Tween-80 and in the Na2B4O7-NaOH medium of pH 10.5,MHPPAT forms a purple complex with Ni(Ⅱ).The apparent molar absorbtivity of the complex is 2.16×105 L·mol-1·cm-1 at 540 nm(λmax). The molar ratio of Ni(Ⅱ) to MHPPAT is 1∶1.Beer's law is well obeyed in the range of 0~ 440 μg /L for nickel. The method has been applied to the direct determination of nickel in aluminium alloys with satisfactory results.
