Abstract

[Objective] To investigate the clinical effect of the facemask bilevel positive air way pressure(BiPAP) assisted ventilation on patients of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) with typeⅡ respiratory failure. [Methods] The total of 46 patients were divided into two groups at random: treatment group (26 cases) and control group (20 cases). The routine therapy was only given in the control group, but BIPAP assisted ventilation and routine therapy both were given in the treatment group. The measures of heart rate, of respiratory rate and arterial gas analysis were observed before and after the treatment. [Results] The heart rate, respiratory rate and arterial gas analysis in the treatment group were improved significantly more than those in the control group (P 0.05). [Conclusion] BIPAP assisted ventilation is certainly effective to COPD with typeⅡrespiratory failure.
