Abstract

Studies were made of the open pollinated seeds of 58 Pinus massoniana families from the seed orchard in Fushun Forest Farm in Sichuan Province.Seedling cultivation was done with complete random block design. The data of height, ground diameter and crown width of six-month-old seedlings were analyzed by variance analysis, heritability evaluation and correlation analysis. The results showed that the differences in these growing characters were significant among families. It was indicated that the improvement potential was notable.According to the results of correlation analysis, significant positive correlation was found among height, ground diameter and crown width of seedlings. The heritability of three traits was higher which was strongly under genetic control. The characteristics of seedling height and seedling ground diameter could be regarded as the most important indexes for selection.Six fast-growing families were selected for further experiment and popularization.
