The clinical significance and the relationship between the pre-treatment serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen(SCC-Ag) level and the biological characteristics of cervical carcinoma

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical significance and the relationship between the pre - treatment serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC - Ag) levels and the biological characteristics in patients with cervical cancer. Methods The pre - treatment sera from 85 patients with cervical carcinoma from 1995 to 1996 were analyzed for the SCC - Ag levels by MEIA; and the correlation between the SCC - Ag levels and the clinicopathologic characteristics were also detected. Results Significant correlations were found between the SCC - Ag levels of the pre - treatment serum SCC - Ag and clinical stage, depth of invasion, the lymph nodes status (P 0.05),patients with cervical tube cancer had lower SCC - Ag positive rate than patients with extermal uteruses cancer, no relation was found between the SCC - Ag levels of the pre -treatment serum SCC - Ag and the grade, pathologic classification, style of growth (P 0.05) .Conclusion Pre treatment SCC - Ag levels plays an important role in evaluating the biological characteristics in patients with cervical cancer.
