Abstract

A comparative analysis is performed of 10 years' (1991~2000) variation of the channel water quality of the main sections of the Taizihe River during high water periods and drought periods. The results show that the water quality of the river basin has declined, that the main pollutants are COD Mn , BOD 5, NH 3 N, volatile phenol, and so on, and that large amounts of industrial wastewater and domestic sewage discharged into the river causes the deterioration of water environment in the river basin. Finally, some countermeasures are proposed for prevention of water pollution, such as improvement of the water resources management system, planning for water resources protection, development of a checking and estimation index system for water resources, development of urban wastewater treatment systems, and development of a real time monitoring and optimal allocation system for water resources.
