Abstract

Objective:To detect the efficacy and side effects of escitalopram in the treatment of depresssion.Method:63 patients with depression were divided into escitalopram group or maprotiline group respectively for 6 weeks.Hamilton depressive scale(HAMD),clinical global impression severity of illness(CGI-SI)and treatment emergant symptom scale(TESS)were used to evaluate the efficacy and side effects before and after the treatment. Results:There was no significant difference in the efficacy between these two groups.Escitalopram took effect more quickly and less side effects than maprotiline. Conclusion:Escitalopram is a safe and effective antidepressant.
