A Comparative Study of Escitalopram and Citalopram in the Treatment of Depression

Abstract

Objective:To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of escitalopram and citalopram in the treatment of Depression.Method: 80 patients with Depression were randomly divided into escitalopram group and citalopram group.The course of treatments was 8 weeks.The therepeutic effects were evaluated by Hamilton rating scale for depression(HAMD),and side effects were assessed by treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS).Result: The efficacy rate of escitalopram group were 85% and citalpram group were 82.5% and there was a significantly difference(P=0.025),The effect of escitalopram is more quickly than citalopram and side effect of all of them is less.Conclusion: Escitalopram is one of effective antidepression.
