Abstract

In this paper, using vinyl acetate(VAc),butyl acrylate(BA),methyl acrylate(MA),acrylic acid(AA),and styrene(St) as the main components a vinyl acetate-acrylate-styrene emulsion adhesive for paper/plastic dry laminating was prepared by polymerization process of pre-emulsification and seed latex. The effects of initiator, reaction temperature, polymerization process, selection and content of emulsifier on the performance of the adhesive were discussed. The results indicated that when the amount of redox initiator is 0.5% by weight of monomers, the reaction temperature is 70 ℃,using the polymerization process of pre-emulsification and seed latex emulsion and the amount of emulsifier is 2% by weight of monomers, the reaction system is stable, the residual monomer content and gel content in the obtained emulsion are lower, the emulsion adhesive has higher peeling strength and the adhesive completely meets the requirements of the product line for paper/plastic laminating.
