Abstract

Objective To investigate the distribution of the genotype and allele frequency of the Fas gene-670A/G single nucleotide polymorphsim(SNP) and evaluate the relationship between the-670A/G SNP and cerebral infarction in Shanghai Han population.Methods The Fas gene-670A/G was detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP)technique in 156 cerebral infarction patients and 95 healthy elders.Results The genotypes of the cerebral infarction patients were 28.21%(AA),56.41%(AG) and 15.38%(GG).The genotypes of healthy elders were 42.11%(AA),45.26%(AG) and 12.63%(GG).The allele frequency in cerebral infarction patients was distributed as 56.41%(A) and 43.59%(G),while in healthy elders was 64.74%(A) and 35.26%(G).There was no significant difference in genotype and allele frequencies distribution between cerebral infarction patients and healthy elders(P0.05).However,the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) level in cerebral infarction patients was significantly lower than in the healthy elders with genotype of AG and GG.Meanwhile,the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)level in this group was much higher than in the healthy elders.Moreover,the triglyceride(TG)level in cerebral infarction patients was much higher than in the healthy elders,while the HDL-C level was much lower in genotype of AA.Conclusions The Fas gene promoter 670A/G SNP is not associated with cerebral infarction.
