Detection of Human Papillomavirus Genotypes in Cervical Cancer and Esophageal Cancer by Gene Chip

Abstract

[Purpose] To explore the association of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence and genotypes distribution in cervical cancer and esophageal cancer. [Methods] HPV genotypes of 200 cases with cervical cancer and 140 cases with esophageal cancer were detected by gene chip. The relation of HPV genotypes with cancer types was investigated. [Results] The positive rate of HPV was 94.00%(188/200) in 200 cases with cervical cancer. Nine HPV genotypes were found and the most common types were HPV16(74.00%) and HPV18(16.00%). The positive rate of double HPV infection was 12.00%(24/200). The HPV positive rate in cervical squamous cancer was significantly higher than that in adenocarcinoma (95.86% vs. 80.00%,χ2=9.73,P0.01),but no significant difference in the positive rate of HPV16,18 and double infection between squamous cancer and adenocarcinoma. HPV with any genotype was not found in 140 cases with esophageal cancer. [Conclusions] HPV has many genotypes in cervical cancer tissue and HPV16,18 are the most common types. HPV infection rate in squamous cancer is higher than that in adenocarcinoma. But the HPV genotypes distribution does not correlate with the cancer types. HPV infection seems no correlation with esophageal cancer.
