Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of COX-2 protein in the carcinogenesis, progression, and metastasis of human colorectal adenocarcinomas. Methods COX-2 protein was detected by SPimmunohistochemistry in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embeded tissues of 30 colorectal adenoma tissues,35 colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues with no regional lymph nodes metastasis, and 35 primary colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues with regional lymph nodes metastasis. Results The expressions of COX-2 protein distributed in cytoplasms and cell membranes,it was gradually increased from colorectal adenoma tissues to colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues(P=0.000).From the well differentiated colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues to the poor differentiated tissues the expressions of COX-2 protein were significantly increased(P=0.009).And the expressions of COX-2 protein between colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues with no regional lymph nodes metastasis and primary colorectal adenocarcinoma tissues with regional lymph nodes metastasis had significantly difference(P=0.035).The expressions of COX-2 were not correlated with some clinicopathological indices(P0.05),such as gender, age, site of colorectal adenocarcinoma,et al.Conclusions COX-2 can be regard as markers for predicating the metastasis and invasion of the colorectal adenocarcinoma. So it was a well prognostic parameter for colorectal cancer.
