Investigation and Countermeasures of Hand Hygiene Compliance among Medical Staff in Infection Department of the First People's Hospital of Lianyungang City

Abstract

[Objective] To analyze the current situation of hand hygiene compliance among medical staff in infection department of the First People's Hospital of Lianyungang city, study a series of scientific, rational and feasible intervention methods for hand hygiene, so as to improve the hand hygiene compliance among medical staff.[Methods]With the combination of self-design questionnaire and spot observation on hand hygiene process, the awareness of knowledge about hand hygiene among medical staff in infection department was studied, and the hand hygiene compliance of medical staff was evaluated.[Results]86.0% of medical staff in infection department had been trained for knowledge about hand hygiene, but the hand hygiene compliance was only 45.8%. The hand hygiene compliance before contacting patients was 30%, that between contacting two patients was 35.0%, and that after contacting patients reached 90%.[Conclusion]The awareness of hand hygiene among medical staff was weak, staff lacked the knowledge about hand hygiene, and the management system of hand hygiene could not be implemented. In order to improve the hand hygiene compliance among medical staff, reduce the nosocomial infection rate, alleviate patients' pain and reduce their economic loss, it is necessary to sum up a set of rational and feasible intervention methods.
