Abstract

In ancient China,Ming is the object of Ming Xue(名学),while character is that of Xiao Xue(philology).Although they belong to different subjects, they are closely and internally related.Starting with Ming Theory by Pre Qin scholars, this paper firstly discusses the relation between Ming and character,so as to find out both similarity and difference between them.Secondly, based on Zheng ming(《正名》)by Xun Zi,the paper restudies the implication ofestablishment by usage. And lastly, the paper focuses on exposing the profound theoretical significance of the two sayings:No Ming is created proper or improper(名无固宜),Each Ming created with perfectness.(名有固善)
