Relationship of Pituitary Tumor Transforming Gene (PTTG) and p53 Expression with Lymphatic Metastasis in Colorectal Cancer

Abstract

[Purpose] To investigate the expression of pituitary tumor transforming gene (PTTG) and p53 protein in colorectal cancer tissues and its relation with lymphatic metastasis.[Methods] Immunohistochemistry was employed to determine the expression of PTTG and p53 protein in 71 cases with colorectal cancer tissues and 42 cases with normal colorectal tissues.The relationship of the expression of PTTG and p53 protein with the clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed.[Results] The positive rates of both PTTG (73.2%) and p53 protein (70.4%) expression in colorectal cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in normal colorectal tissues(7.1% and 0) (P0.05).The expression of PTTG was correlated with lymph node metastasis (P0.05),but there were no correlation between expression of p53 and lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer tissues (P0.05).[Conclusions] The expression of PTTG significantly increases in colorectal cancer and correlates to lymph node metastasis of colorectal cancer.PTTG might be used as a marker for lymph node metastasis in colorectal carcinoma.
