Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy and safety of acarbose combined with insulin glargine for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods Seventy-four T2DM patients were included in the study. In addition to the diabetic diet and exercise therapy, acarbose combined with insulin glargine were administered for 12 weeks. The changes of fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2 h postprandial blood glucose(PBG),and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) were observed and renal functions were compared before and after treatment. The adverse events were observed and safety of the treatment was evaluated. Results The values of FPG,2 h PBG,HbA1c were significantly decreased after treatment(P0.01).The incidence rate of alimentary canal and hypoglycemia were 8.11% and 2.70% respectively. The hospitalization rate was 4.05%.Conclusion Acarbose combined with insulin glargine for T2DM can effectively decrease blood glucose with no obvious damage to organ function and less complications. The application of T2DM in clinical treatment can lower hospitalization rate.
