Abstract
The synthesis of 2-bromoethoxybenzene by the reaction of phenol and 1,2-dibromoethane in the presence of the phase transfer catalyst of tetrabutylammonium bromide was studied. The effect of reaction temperature, reaction time, materials ratio and amount of catalyst on the synthesis was studied, and the optimal conditions were as follows: reaction temperature,100°C;reaction time,6 h;n(phenol)∶n(1,2-dibromoethane)=1∶1.15;n(phenol)∶n(sodium hydroxide)=1∶1.15;amount of solvent,40 mL(based 0.15 mol phenol);amount of catalyst,1 g(based 0.15 mol phenol). The yield of 2-bromoethoxybenzene was(88.9%),and the purity of the product was 98.5%.
