Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To optimize the technique for extraction of Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine in Herba ephedrae. METHODS: HPLC was used to determine the contents of Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine in Herba ephedrae, and orthogonal test was applied to optimize the extraction technique. RESULTS: The optimized extraction technique was as follows: using 10- fold water for the first time and extracting for 45 mins; using 8- fold water for the second time and extracting for 30 mins; setting pH of water at 3. CONCLUSIONS: This extraction technique is well- grounded, and the content determination method is simple, safe and reliable.
