Therapeutic effect of losantan on hypertension associated with hyperuricemia in elderly patients

Abstract

Objective: To study the effects of treating uricacidemia and anti-hypertension by losartan in elderly patients with hypertension associated hyperuricemia. Methods: Selected 60 elderly patients with hypertension and hyperuricemia, in which divided two groups by random, one group with losartan 50 mg per day po, other group with captopril 25 mg per day po, the drug dose can be changed according the level of the blood pressure, for 4 weeks, compared the changes of serum uric acid and the blood pressure for two groups. Results: (1) The systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure decreased prominently in both groups after four weeks treament (P 0. 05) , but there was no significant difference between losartan group and captopril group (P 0. 05); (2) The serum uric acid had apparently reduced in losartan group after four weeks treatment (P 0. 05), while there was not significantly reduced in captopril group (P 0. 05); (3) There was no significant side-effect between losartan group and captopril group. Conclusions: Losartan can drecrease the level of the blood pressure and serum uric acid, which is effective and safe for elderly essential hypertension patients with hyperuricemia using losartan to control the blood pressure.
