Influence of Cataract Phacoemulsification on Corneal Endothelial Cells in Diabetes

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the influence of cataract phacoemulsifica tion on corneal endothelial cells in diabetes.Methods: 40 eyes of 35 cataract and diabetes patients in dia betic group and 60 eyes of 54 cataract patients withoutdiabetes in control group were involved in this study.The den sity and the percentage of hexagonal cells of the corneal endo thelium were measured before and on 1 week,1 and 3 months after surgery.The results were analyzed.Results: In both group,the density and the percentage of hexagonal cells of the corneal endothelium decreased significantly after treatment(P0.05).There is no statistical difference between those of the two groups before treatment(P0.05).the corneal endothelium loss in diabetes group was more significantly than those in control group and the percentage of hexagonal cells of the corneal endothelium in diabetes group was less significantly than those control group at 1 week;1 and 3 months after treatment(P0.01).Concluslon: The cataract phacoemulsification damages corneal endothelium more or less,and corneal endothelium of diabetics is more easy to be damaged.
